
W.G.S O'Shields was born 1863 and died 1938 at the age of 75. He played a fiddle in the O'Shields String Band. Mr. O'Shields was a kind and gentle person who loved being around people. Mr. O'Shields was married to Annie Hyatt she was born 1865 and she died 1928 at the age of 63 years of age. Mr. O'Shields was the youngest son of Wiley Drayton O'Shields and Julia Smith O'Shields. This was my grandaddy and my grandmother, Mr. O'Shields could write with both hands and talk all at the same time or this has been told to be the truth. He could draw anything that he wanted to draw. I never did get to really get to know them since they both died before i was born. But it seems as if i have known them all my life. I know this i'am looking for the day that i will see them both. We can talk about a family reunion and they are great but just wait till we get home what a day that will be. When we see our love ones that have gone on before. Grandaddy was County Auditor for many years in Spartanburg County Court House S.C. He lived on a large Plantantion 272 acres of land. Now that is a lots of land to farm. Death ended a long illness' the last three monts of Mr. O'Shields life being spent in bed. A native and life long resident of the county' Mr. O'Shields was county auditor for thirty --two and one half years' and was employed in various capacities by the county for more than forty--five years. Before being elected to the office of auditor he served as Magistrate Clerk of the Probate Judge's office and as clerk in the treasure's office. He was the son of the late Wiley Drayton and Julia Smith O'Shields and was born reared in the Walnut Grove section. Before entering public office' he was engaged in farming for a number of years. Since being succeeded to the office of auditor four years ago by the present incumbent' Harold Murph' he had made his home with his daughter' Mrs. Senn. Surving are four children' Mrs. Senn' Manley W. O'Shields both of the city' Wallace M. O'Shields of Pauline' and D.L. O'Shields of Greenville; twenty--seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother; H.W. O'Shields of Pauline. this is the way that it was in the paper in 1938. I want to say that i have two baby brothers and a baby sister that are buried right next to grandaddy and grandmother's grave site there are no markers but i have been told by family members that they are buried there.
